Slow, Very Slow, Coding Through Treacle, And Then There's IntelliJ...

Slower all the time
Hey! Perhaps an EAP release will fix it?!

Update: 8.1 is slow. I hadn't tried upgrade to 8.1.2, but I hear:

"Don’t do it. Performance is abysmal.

Enter key -> beach ball of waiting
Ctrl-space -> beach ball of waiting

I’m going back to 8.1"

Update: I'm still hanging in there. Things have not improved. I've disabled most all inspections, as many plugins as I can without disabling refactoring support. I semi-regularly delete the IDEA cache. I've followed some OS X specific advice and set the IDE font to Monospaced. Along the way I upgraded to 8.1.3 (because things can't get any worse, right?). All these tweaks make it more usable, but still a very sorry state for premium software.

I had to lookup "treacle". I take it you don't like intelliJ then? Is it giving you issues?

My ex-coworkers at TU had similar issues.

Did you make that image up? Either way, this is hilarious. Fortunately, writing Clojure code isn't as bad as Java ... because the La Clojure plugin does less.

To paraphrase and old joke: The most frightening words to a Java programmer are "I'm the new release of IntelliJ and I'm here to help!".

Hey!!! I resent that!!! ;) Nice touch, and yes I've noticed my favorite toy has been slowing down on the later releases. I thought it was related to the types of projects I was opening or maybe general hardware slowness but maybe I should try opening a lighter project and see...

v8 is in a pretty sad state. I should really go back to v7 if I still can. I keep hoping that the situation will improve. I mean, it *must* right?

Hang in there MErlyn. I believe V8 will eventually improve. (This is coming from a guy that still watches every episode of Heroes even as the original writers have jumped ship and the story line has found its way into the sewer. Yes, they'll stop bringing the little boy's mother back from death. Yes they'll finally find a way to kill Sylasr... just hang in there... wait, You'll see!)

Hey Merlyn, I don't have a computer comment - I just had a dream about you last night and wondered how you were getting on. I hope all's well. My email is katie_gould@hotmail.com. Kate
